Ribbon cutting held for overpass completion at Yukon Road and Loop 338

State Representative Brooks Landgraf and Odessa Mayor Javier Joven were among the attendees at the ribbon cutting Friday morning.

ODESSA, Texas — On Friday morning in Odessa, TxDOT and city officials, including State Representative Brooks Landgraf and Odessa Mayor Javier Joven, held a celebratory ribbon cutting for the completion of the overpass for Loop 338 and Yukon Road.

The project costed around $20 million and took three years to complete. The finished project includes the overpass, tunnel lanes, traffic signals, signage and more.

This was a partnership between both Midland County and Ector County to fix an area of Loop 338 that had a high fatality rate in the past. Loop 338 serves as an important part of roadway travel.

"This was a priority project set aside by the Permian Basin MPO in a large part due to the safety issues and safety concerns," said Eric Lykins, TxDOT Odessa District engineer. "So anytime an overpass interchange like this happens you eliminate conflict points especially with the high speed traffic on the Loop. By eliminating those conflict points we improve the safety of the hold interchange."

This roadway change is just the beginning of a plan to make Loop 338 continuous and more efficient for all drivers.
